Free. Always will be.
You need three friends and one teacher. A chapter is your crew, not the school's team. No tryouts, no cut, no bench, and a school can have as many as its students want to start (§ 3.2).
A CHAPTER IS NOT A TITLE. A CHAPTER IS PERMISSION TO TRY TO EARN ONE. § 3.5
Free to start. Scarce to win.
3–6 friends and one teacher's signature. As many per school as students want to start. § 3.1
Your chapter enters, your school signs. Fee and details live in the advisor memo. § 3.3
Nobody grants it. You win it, and the record follows you. § 3.5
Hi [teacher], a few of us want to start a MADE chapter and it needs one faculty advisor: your signature on one form, and being in the room at events. This one-page memo is the whole ask: [site]/advisors/ . Would you read it?

No chapters yet. The first twelve shape the rules. Registration opens alongside Sprint 001. Founding chapters get a standing seat in the rules process: their questions become the first public rulings, and their playtests drive the changelog. | ||||
MANY CHAPTERS PER SCHOOL. YOUR CREW, NOT THE SCHOOL'S TEAM.
Not ready to found anything?
You don't need a chapter to compete. The Open Sprint requires no team, no advisor, and no fee (§ 3.4), and your individual defense record starts there either way. Plenty of chapters will be founded by people who met at one.
